Caring for your tie
Because your bow tie is situated outside your collar and remains naturally protected, caring for it shouldn’t be a bother at all.
A ready-tie bow tie doesn’t ask for any care. A self-tie bow tie does asks some commitment of the bow tie wearer. The knot should be tightened each time you wear the bow tie. After a while you might want to re-knot the bow. Ironing the two flat pieces on medium heat will ease tying your bow tie.
Iron on medium heat
When wrinkled, deformed or untied, it’s best to iron the flat pieces of the bow tie on medium heat. Some steam can be applied for stubborn wrinkles.
You can remove stains with the tip of a clean cloth and a little bit of water and soap. Do a small test on a hidden part to make sure the fabric doesn’t lose its color. Always blot, never rub out the stain.
Dry Clean recommended
For a general wash, it is recommended to take your bow tie to the dry cleaners. Extend the sliders to their fullest extent before cleaning.
Ideally, store your bow tie untied, clean and ironed in a protective box on a dry spot.
